Cotswolds Hotel Golf & Spa Wedding, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire

Even though you may not know one end of a golf club from the other, it could be well worth while considering the Cotswolds Hotel Golf & Spa, Chipping Norton if you are planning an Oxfordshire wedding. Emily and Ritchie’s church ceremony was in Oxford City but they hired an exclusive London red double decker bus to transport family and friends to this excellent countryside wedding venue for their lively summer celebrations.

About Cotswolds Hotel Golf & Spa

Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire

There has been a golf course at Chipping Norton since 1890. The first course was on Chipping Norton Common and it moved to its present location in 1907. The hotel is a new addition, being built in 2017, and is now an established Cotswolds wedding venue.

Our couple chose The Marquee Ballroom which has a capacity for 250 guests. Smaller, intimate weddings can be catered for in the hotel’s restaurant or a newly-opened function room. If you choose to marry at the venue, ceremonies can take place in any of their licensed rooms.

You will see from my images that Emily and Ritchie staged an awesome fireworks display and the hotel has a dedicated terrace area where you can amaze your guests. One of the hotel’s extras is access to the Wellness Area where guests can enjoy a unique and specialised experience for face, body and nails.

This unique wedding venue is set in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds and it is likely some guests will plan a short break after the celebrations are over. They will be spoiled for choice. Near the market town of Chipping Norton is Fairytale Farm, a must for the young ones.

Within “Chippy” itself, the Lido is a popular choice. This  25m heated outdoor swimming pool, with a large tree-lined lawn, is ideal if you are looking for outdoor fun.

Don’t miss the town’s Museum Of Local History or The Theatre, a real hidden gem. If you are exploring the town then pop into Kingfisher Art. This contemporary art gallery is well worth a visit.

At 700 ft  above sea level, Chipping Norton is Oxfordshire’s highest town and just outside the town you will find Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm Shop, made famous by the gregarious celebrity and the Amazon television series, Clarkson’s Farm.

Headington Quarry Parish Church

THE CEREMONY

Holy Trinity, Headington, Oxford

Emily and Ritchie were married in Headington Quarry Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, often described as “The Village Church In The City”. It is also famously known as the church where C. S. Lewis, writer of the Narnia tales and Alice’s adventures ‘Through The Looking Glass’, worshipped for 30 years and is buried in the churchyard.

Clive Staples Lewis was born in Belfast in 1898 and died in the parish in 1963. Holy Trinity church was designed in 1848 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. He had designed the Martyr’s Memorial in Oxford city centre and would later go on to design Oxford University’s Exeter College chapel.

The pew where Lewis worshipped can still be seen in Holy Trinity church as well as the pulpit where he would occasionally preach. In 1991, the church commissioned The Nania Window. This new stained-glass window depicts the Garden of Eden as Lewis described it, with talking animals and speaking trees. This Virtual Tour of Holy Trinity, presented by the vicar who conducted Emily and Ritchie’s ceremony, Dr Laura Biron-Scott, is well worth a look!
