The Royal Chapel of All Saints, Windsor Great Park, Berkshire

Few people attain permission to be married in The Royal Chapel of All Saints, Windsor Great Park, Berkshire. This exquisite building stands in the grounds of Royal Lodge and so it was a privilege to be asked to photograph the winter marriage ceremony of Gemma and Alex, which took place within this historic place of worship.

Close by The Royal Chapel of All Saints is the Grade II listed Royal Lodge. The lodge was private residence of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, for over 70 years. It is now the family home of the Duke of York.

The Royal Chapel

The Royal Chapel of All Saints is also Grade II listed and was built on the orders of George IV in 1825. The Queen regularly visited the Royal Chapel on Sundays to pray when she was staying at Windsor Castle, then would visit her mother afterwards for lunch. The Queen Mother often visited the Royal Chapel as well, until her death at the Royal Lodge in 2002. Her body lay at the chapel’s alter before being taken to London for her lying in state at Westminster Hall and funeral.

Pews for the Royal Family run down the right hand side of The Royal Chapel of All Saints and Crown Estate workers living in Windsor Great Park use the pews that run down the left hand side.

Sir Christopher Wren Hotel, Windsor, Berkshire.

The wedding party chose the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel, Windsor to prepare for their marriage ceremony at The Royal Chapel of All Saints, Windsor Great Park.

Providing 4-star riverside accommodation, the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel comprises several buildings oozing character and clustered around a historic cobbled street, right in the heart of Windsor. The bedrooms are individually styled and facilities include a sauna, spa treatments, and gym.

Located directly on the banks of the Thames, the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel is within easy walking distance of Windsor’s restaurants and shops. Windsor Castle and Eton College are close by. The hotel can offer valet parking and has a private jetty from where you can choose to either cruise down the river or moor your own boat if you prefer!

The York Club, Windsor Great Park, Berkshire.

Close by The Royal Chapel of All Saints is The York Club, chosen by Gemma and Alex for their wedding breakfast. A private members club for residents and employees of The Crown Estate, it proved to be the perfect choice to celebrate their special day. The weather could only be described as ‘changeable’ but, at the end of a brilliant day, our happy couple took their opportunity to make the most of a some time together to stroll in the Great Park at sunset.
