Rushpool Hall, Saltburn-by-the-Sea

Rushpool Hall, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, is a beautiful, award-winning, 19th century manor house wedding venue. Set in rolling North Yorkshire countryside, this was the location for Jess and James’ autumn wedding celebrations.

History of Rushpool Hall

Rushpool Hall is one of the finest examples of Victorian architecture in North Yorkshire. It was built for John Bell and construction started in 1863 and completed the following year. Bell was one of the pioneer iron masters of Bell Brothers, a company that controlled and worked the ironstone mines in nearby Skelton. The Hall was built with the first ironstone raised from the Bell Brothers’ shaft mine.

Situated on the coast, Rushpool Hall, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, is close to the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors. As the moors were so close to their home, the Bell family were able to enjoy the best of both worlds – coast and countryside. This did not, however, stop the family enjoying the winter months at their other overseas residence in Algiers. John Bell died in Algiers in 1888, aged 70, but not before becoming a major player in Tees-side iron production, employing 6,000 men at his peak.

Amongst the famous visitors to Rushpool Hall, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, were Sir Winston Churchill and Gertrude Bell, explorer and archaeologist, and grandniece of John Bell. She played a major role in establishing the modern state of Iraq. Gertrude has been described as one of the few representatives of His Majesty’s Government remembered by the Arabian states with affection.

The Wedding Venue

The beautiful Ballroom, which can seat up to 110 guests, was chosen for Jess and James’ ceremony. This is the perfect room for wedding photography. Its high ceilings, large windows with surrounding gardens allow natural light to flood this space.

Outside you will find two lakes. The beautiful grounds, with pavilions incorporating stone columns and domed ceilings, have great backdrops and views.

Should you be thinking about a North Yorkshire wedding then check out Rushpool Hall, Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Another North Yorkshire wedding venue you may want to consider is Thicket Priory, near York, chosen for Jessica and Sam’s Wedding.
